The Cluster Temperature Function at High Redshift

چکیده

We take advantage of the biggest cosmological simulation to date for a critical CDM universe in order to test robustness of the cluster mass function on a range of masses much wider than tested before. On the high mass end our results show an excess of hot clusters and a milder evolution compared to the analytical predictions based on the Press & Schechter formula. These features must be properly taken into account in deriving the cluster X-ray temperature function at moderate and high redshifts. On a general basis, the reduced negative evolution in the number of hot clusters could alleviate the discrepancies between the predictions for critical universes and incoming data, which instead seem to favour low Ω0.

A Bayesian Inference Analysis of the X-ray Cluster Luminosity-Temperature Relation

We present a Bayesian inference analysis of the Markevitch (1998) and Allen & Fabian (1998) cooling flow corrected X-ray cluster temperature catalogs that constrains the slope and the evolution of the empirical X-ray cluster luminosity-temperature (L-T ) relation. We find that for the luminosity range 1044.5 erg s−1 ∼< Lbol ∼< 10 46.5 erg s−1 and the redshift range z ∼< 0.5, Lbol ∝ T 2.80 −0.15...

Apparent and actual galaxy cluster temperatures

The redshift evolution of the galaxy cluster temperature function is a powerful probe of cosmology. However, its determination requires the measurement of redshifts for all clusters in a catalogue, which is likely to prove challenging for large catalogues expected from XMM-Newton, which may contain of the order of 2000 clusters with measurable temperatures, distributed around the sky. In this p...

Formation and Evolution of Galactic Halos in Clusters of Galaxies

We investigate effects of time evolution of a rich cluster of galaxies on its member galactic halos in the standard cold dark matter (SCDM) universe using high resolution N-body simulations. We identify several hundred galactic halos within virial radius of our simulated cluster. We also find that a large number of halos have been tidally disrupted at z = 0. Therefore we improve a method of der...

The XMM - Ω project : II . Cosmological implications from the high redshift L − T relation of X - ray clusters

The evolution with redshift of the temperature-luminosity relation of X-ray galaxy clusters is a key ingredient to break degeneracies in the interpretation of X-ray clusters redshift number counts. We therefore take advantage of the recent measurements of the temperature-luminosity relation of distant clusters observed with XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites to examine theoretical number counts ...

Ωm from the Temperature-Redshift Distribution of EMSS Clusters of Galaxies

We constrain Ωm through a maximum likelihood analysis of temperatures and redshifts of the high-redshift clusters from the EMSS. We simultaneously fit the low-redshift Markevitch (1998) sample (an all-sky sample from ROSAT with z = 0.04 − 0.09), a moderate redshift EMSS sample from Henry (1997) (9 clusters with z = 0.3 − 0.4), and a more distant EMSS sample (5 clusters with z = 0.5 − 0.83 from ...
